(Consideration of minutes of the November 20, 1996 Transportation and Public Safety Interim Committee
meeting).
2:05 p.m. 2. Report of Transportation Bills Passed During the 1997 General Session
(Five bills were recommend by the Transportation and Public Safety Interim Committee for the 1997 General Session three
of them passed. Several other bills related to transportation
and funding for highways where also passed. This item is for
the information of the committee).
2:15 p.m. 3. Discussion of Priority Study Items for the 1997 Interim
(The committee has the responsibility to study the most important transportation issues facing the state. This item is
to discuss and identify the issues committee members believe
should be studied this year).
3:00 p.m. 4. I-15 Reconstruction Update
(Wasatch Constructors have been awarded the bid to demolish and rebuild I-15 in Salt Lake County from 600 North to 10800
South. Bid enhancements for the job are $230 million more
than then last year's projected $1.36 billion total project
costs. This item is to provide a review and questions and
answers by the committee on the process of selecting the
contractor, the reasons for the additional costs, and what the
traveling public and the Legislature can expect in the near
future for the project
