              ( The reconstruction of I-15 in Salt Lake County from 600 North to 10800 South is underway with several freeway ramps now closed and traffic lanes restricted or switched to the opposite side of the freeway . Bid enhancements for the job are $230 million more than last year's projected $1.36 billion total project cost. Current cash flow projections require an additional $361 million for the project over the next two years.)

             (H.B. 1, "Appropriations Act" which passed during the 1997 General Session included intent language that the Department of Transportation report to the committee on the efficiencies and cost reductions that have been achieved and those that are anticipated as a result of implementing the Performance Management Initiatives Internal Plan, on any reassignments of FTE positions, and on the expenditures of specified funds.)

(H.B. 48, "UDOT - Internal Performance Audit" which passed during the 1995 General Session required UDOT to hire at least two performance auditors to conduct performance, financial, compliance, impact, and external audits of the department as prioritized by the commission. What audits have been completed? What audits are underway? What are the major audit findings? What processes are in place for the department to receive and implement audit recommendations?)

4:10 p.m     5.    Motor Vehicle Window Tinting -- (Draft Legislation)
            
(S.B. 14, "Window Tinting for Motor Vehicles" which passed during the 1994 General Session established minimum light transmittance standards for motor vehicle windows. A window that meets federal standards at the time of manufacture is considered to meet the state's standard if it is not altered after manufacture. The Administrative Rules Committee referred a Department of Public Safety rule to the committee because they determined the rule allows window tinting beyond what the statute allows.)
