AGENDA

LEGISLATIVE PROCESS COMMITTEE

Tuesday, September 16, 1997 - 9:00 a.m. - Room 405 State Capitol

1.    Call to Order

2.    Approval of August 19, 1997 Minutes

3.    Review of Draft Legislation - Special Sessions

Draft legislation will be presented including a two part constitutional amendment. This constitutional amendment is designed to permit the Legislature to add items to the call for special sessions by a 2/3 vote of each house, and to require seven days lead time on proclamations for special sessions, except in emergencies. A statutory change would require bills to be available 24 hours in advance of a session and a public hearing to be held on all bills considered during a special session.

4.    Legislative Ethics - Gifts

The committee will continue to discuss issues related to the current law.

5.     Length of Session/Time Commitment of Legislators

Is there adequate time in the session/interim? The time commitment required of legislators is not confined to the official legislative and interim meeting days. What are the time commitments required and which activities should be compensated?

6.    Other Committee Business

                Next Meeting - Tuesday, October 14, 1997
    .
7.    Adjournment
