2. Research and Extension Activities of the Jack H. Berryman Institute
The Jack H. Berryman Institute, which is housed within Utah State University's
Department of Natural Resources, seeks to develop innovative techniques to reduce conflicts
between humans and wildlife. Mr. Conover will give an overview of the institute's activities and
will review the findings of a recent institute conference on wildlife damage management. Mr.
Messmer and Mr. Bodenchuck will report on a research project of the institute to manage
predators of pheasants.

3. Management of Elk Depredation
Mr. Smith, a rancher, will discuss the impact of elk on winter range and work undertaken
with the Division of Wildlife Resources to improve private summer range.

4. Cedar Mountain Project and Proposed Ecosystem Initiative
The Cedar Mountain Project is a joint research project of Utah State University and Southern Utah University to maximize livestock production on rangeland. It is proposed to
expand the scope of the project to determine how to manage rangeland to optimize livestock and
wildlife production and to preserve certain forestry resources.
