My name is Sariah Tafoya, I am a senior attending Millcreek High School, in Washington County, Utah. I am aware that you will be voting soon about regulating e-cigarettes. I wanted to make you aware of some of my concerns about e-cigarettes, and the things I have seen with the youth.
I have seen a high majority of youth smoking at school. I have seen the youth at my school smoking in bathrooms, and even in the classroom while the teachers back is turn. The usage rate in my county has tripled in the last two years. I believe this is due too tobacco companies advertising the e-cigarettes are safe. I have personally spoken with several youth who believe e-cigarettes are nothing more than flavored air.
I don't believe that tobacco companies should be able to advertise being safe, when the e-cigarettes are untested and unproven.
Please help improve the youth usage rate, and help make a difference in Utah. I know this is a very important matter, and that you can make a difference.
