A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION OF THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR URGING
8
THE CITIZENS OF UTAH TO HOST THE FAMILIES OF ATHLETES COMPETING IN THE
9
2002 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES.
10
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
11
WHEREAS, the state of Utah looks forward eagerly to welcoming the many athletes from
12
around the world who will compete in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games;
13
WHEREAS, many athletes are at this moment engaged in intense training and preparation
14
for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games;
15
WHEREAS, the families of these aspiring Olympians have supported and encouraged their
16
daughters and sons to pursue their Olympic dreams;
17
WHEREAS, for many years these families have sacrificed greatly to help their children
18
prepare for their quest for victory;
19
WHEREAS, this sacrifice may prevent those families from attending the 2002 Olympic
20
Winter Games and supporting their loved ones for financial reasons;
21
WHEREAS, elected leaders of the state of Utah want to open their homes to these families
22
so that one more financial barrier to their attendance at the Games may be lifted; and
23
WHEREAS, Utahns can play a vital role in making the Olympic dream not only a memory
24
but a personal experience for many families of Olympic competitors:
25
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
26
Governor concurring therein, pledge to open our homes to the families of the athletes who will
27
compete in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
28
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor encourage all Utahns
29
to offer a warm welcome and a place to stay so that families of competing athletes may join us in
30
celebrating the achievements and triumphs of the world's Olympians.
31
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the International
32
Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic Committee, and the Salt Lake Olympic
33
Organizing Committee.
