10
Be it resolved by the Senate of the state of Utah:
11
WHEREAS, significant growth has occurred in the southern portion of Salt Lake Valley
12
in recent years;
13
WHEREAS, this growth has led to large increases in vehicle traffic flowing through south

16
south interchange of Interstate 15 and Interstate 215 south to the Point of the Mountain, are bearing

19
upon adequate maintenance for these highways;
20
WHEREAS, the highway system crosses many jurisdictional boundaries;

WHEREAS, a study of highway jurisdiction and how best to manage the maintenance and
22
effectiveness of the highway system is critical during this time of growth and highway
23
reconstruction; and
24
WHEREAS, using sound transportation planning and engineering practices, and in
25
consultation with affected local governments, the Utah Department of Transportation should study
26
the most effective manner in which to ensure an efficient and effective highway system that can
27
meet the growing needs of the citizens of Utah:
28
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the state of Utah urges the
29
Department of Transportation, in consultation with affected local governments and using sound
30
transportation planning and engineering practices, to study the highway system from the southern
31
interchange of Interstate 15 and Interstate 215 south to the Point of the Mountain with emphasis
32
on east/west routes to determine how to most effectively address the many jurisdictional
33
ownerships in a manner that will ensure that highways are adequately maintained for the
34
commercial and personal use of the citizens of the state of Utah.
