CIGARETTE AND TOBACCO TAX AMENDMENTS

Representative Wayne A. Harper proposes the following amendments:
1. Page 2, Line 48: After "research;" delete "and"
2. Page 2, Line 51: After "Medicine" insert ";
(iv) an amount equal to a tax of 0.25 cents on each cigarette taxed under Subsection (1), to be annually appropriated to the Department of Community and Economic Development for the location, attraction, and retention of companies in this state involved in biomedical or medical research, supplies, devices, or manufacturing; and
(v) an amount equal to a tax of 0.25 cents on each cigarette taxed under Subsection (1), to be annually appropriated to the Department of Health to enhance medical provider reimbursement rates and medicaid coverage for the uninsured."
3. Page 2, Line 54: After "(5)(d)" delete "(iii)" and insert "(v)"
4. Pages 2 and 3, Lines 56-59: Delete lines 56-59
5. Page 3, Line 68: After line 68 insert
"(3)(a) Fifty percent of the revenues generated by the increase in the tax under this section enacted during the 2002 Annual General Session shall be deposited into the "Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund" created in Section 9-4-702.
(b) Fifty percent of the revenues generated by the increase in the tax under this section enacted during the 2002 Annual General Session shall be deposited into the General Fund as a dedicated credit to be used by the Department of Community and Economic Development for tourism marketing and promotion."
