             8      General Description:
             9          This bill provides a class B misdemeanor penalty for individuals providing false or
             10      misleading information to an officer of the court.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    provides a class B misdemeanor penalty for persons knowingly providing false or
             14      misleading statements to officers of the court; and
             15          .    applies whether or not the person is under affirmation or oath.

             21      ENACTS:
             22          76-8-504.6, Utah Code Annotated 1953

             24      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             25          Section 1. Section 76-8-504.6 is enacted to read:
             26          76-8-504.6. False or misleading information.
             27          (1) A person is guilty of a class B misdemeanor if the person knowingly gives or


             28      causes to be given false or misleading information to an officer of the court for the purpose of
             29      avoiding or reducing penalties in a matter before the court.
             30          (2) Subsection (1) applies whether or not the person is under affirmation or oath.
